255 delegates from 15 countries attended the I International Congress on Automation in the Mining Industry – AUTOMINING 2008, that was held on 23-25 April 2008 in the Sheraton Hotel & Convention Center in Santiago, Chile. Among the participating countries were Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Mexico, Peru, South Africa, Sweden and United States.
During the three days of the AUTOMINING 2008 congress, the audience had the opportunity to assist to 50 presentations focused on different aspects of Automation practices in the mining industry. Several of the presented articles were published in the proceedings.
On its first version, AUTOMINING 2008 has confirmed to be an international forum where professionals can meet and interact about innovations and recent developments related to automation applied to mining, mineral processing, pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy, electrometallurgy, and metal manufacturing.
On April 23, AUTOMINING 2008 was launched with the Inauguration Ceremony, where Dr. Sirkka-Liisa Jämsä-Jounela, professor from the University of Technology of Helsinki, Finland, presented a key note address on “Current Status and Future Trends in Process Automation.”
The AUTOMINING 2008 Organizing Committee would like to thank the collaboration of the members of the Advisory and Technical Committees, who supported and promoted this event and helped to review the articles. We would also like to thank the Sponsor Companies and especially the Authors for their participation and for sharing their knowledge and experience in the innovations and developments in the Automation applied to the mining industry.
